Why Ocean-Harvested Gracilaria Is Not the Same as Pool-Grown Sea Moss
Not all sea moss is created equal. The difference between Gracilaria and Eucheuma — and why it matters for your health.
The sea moss industry has a transparency problem. Most products on the market use Eucheuma cottonii — a species grown on ropes in controlled pools, primarily in Asia. It’s cheaper, easier to mass-produce, and nutritionally inferior.
Alchemoss uses Gracilaria — the species that grows wild in the Caribbean Sea. This is the strain Dr. Sebi spoke about. The one your grandparents’ generation knew.
The difference is mineral density. Ocean-harvested Gracilaria absorbs minerals from the open sea — 92 of 106 essential minerals. Pool-grown Eucheuma sits in controlled water with limited mineral exposure.
When you buy sea moss, ask: where was it harvested? If they can’t tell you, they’re probably selling you pool-grown.
